چکیده

levels in eight nonasthmatic patients with allergic rhinitis. At the time of the measurement all patients were exposed to natural allergens and had symptoms of rhinitis. Adenosine concentrations were significantly higher in samples from these patients than in samples from healthy subjects. This result confirms that active allergic inflammation, either of the upper or lower airways, may result in elevation in EBC-adenosine concentration as suggested. Furthermore, when EBC was collected with nasal inhalation adenosine levels were higher than in samples obtained with oral inhalation, suggesting that nasally produced adenosine may enter the lower airways which may, at least in part, be responsible for increases in the adenosine levels [8]. Finally, we agree with L. Spicuzza and colleagues that there is a need for further prospective studies on this topic. We believe these studies need to assess changes in the concentration of adenosine in exhaled breath condensate and also evaluate the relationship between adenosine in exhaled breath condensate and the degree of allergen exposure or deterioration in airway inflammation. Justification of the possible use of the concentration of adenosine in exhaled breath condensate to monitor chronic or acute airway inflammation also requires further investigation.

Breath tests and airway gas exchange.

Measuring soluble gas in the exhaled breath is a non-invasive technique used to estimate levels of respiratory, solvent, and metabolic gases. The interpretation of these measurements is based on the assumption that the measured gases exchange in the alveoli. While the respiratory gases have a low blood-solubility and exchange in the alveoli, high blood-soluble gases exchange in the airways. The...

ساخت نمونه بردار کندانس هوای بازدمی جهت مطالعه بیومارکرهای بازدمی استرس اکسیداتیو

Background: The use of exhaled breath condensate (EBC) biomarkers to evaluate exposure and disease in recent years gained attention in toxicology and occupational medicine. However, use of standard sampling apparatus is missing element in this procedure. Methods: Initial design of sampler was selected based on the water condensation system. The effect of sampler length, sampling time and tempe...

Exhaled breath temperature in asthma.

We read with interest the manuscript of PIACENTINI et al. [1]. This paper shows that exhaled breath temperature plateau and exhaled nitric oxide (NO) are correlated in children with asthma. This finding is interesting considering that NO is a marker of inflammation and that exhaled breath temperature may also be used to assess inflammation in the airways in a noninvasive way. We previously show...

Exhaled single-breath nitric oxide measurements are reproducible, repeatable and reflect levels of nitric oxide found in the lower airways.

Measurement of exhaled nitric oxide (NO) may allow noninvasive assessment of inflammatory disease in the lung. We determined immediate and day-to-day reproducibility of single-breath NO measurements at different points on the exhaled test, and whether levels recorded reflect levels of NO in the lower airways. Using a rapid chemiluminescence analyser, 55 healthy control subjects performed three ...
